Sourcing Sunflower Oil in Bulk: Packaging, Specs & Incoterms

5 min read

Refined sunflower oil is a fast-moving staple across the Gulf, Asia and Africa. Whether you're a retailer, distributor or food-service buyer, here's how to source it in bulk without surprises.

Know your spec: RBD

For retail and cooking use you want RBD (refined, bleached, deodorized) sunflower oil — clear, neutral and shelf-stable. Agree the key specs up front: free fatty acid (FFA), colour, moisture and peroxide value.

Choose the right packaging

Packaging depends on your channel:

  • 1L / 5L PET bottles — retail shelves and consumer sale.
  • 20L jerry cans — food service, HORECA and value retail.
  • Bulk flexitanks (in 20ft containers) — refillers and large processors; lowest cost per litre.

Certifications and compliance

HACCP and ISO 22000 cover food safety; Halal certification is essential for Gulf and many African markets. Confirm which your destination requires before ordering.

MOQ, Incoterms and delivery

Bulk oil usually moves by the 20ft container. Decide between FOB, CIF or DDP — for oil, CIF to your port is common. Lead times run roughly 3–5 weeks depending on destination. A reliable supplier consolidates volume so your pricing and supply stay stable.
